Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse to join our team, specializing in stroke stepdown care for adult patients. The ideal candidate will have experience in managing various medical conditions and will play a crucial role in providing high-quality patient care.

Unit Overview

The unit focuses on the care of stroke, altered mental status, renal issues, dialysis, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Congestive Heart Failure (CHF), isolation cases, general medical-surgical needs, pneumonia, and other pulmonary issues.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive care to patients recovering from strokes and other medical conditions.
• Utilize specialty equipment including IV pumps, N/G tubes, and feeding tubes.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
• Conduct assessments, analyze data, and implement care plans based on patient needs.
• Communicate effectively with patients and families to promote understanding of care plans.
• Participate in floating to various units as needed based on patient care requirements.

Shifts

This position requires working evening shifts from 6:30 PM to 7:00 AM. Please note that block scheduling is not guaranteed.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in medical-surgical nursing with stroke stepdown experience.
• Current and active Registered Nurse license in New York.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification are required. NIHSS certification can be obtained prior to the start date.
• Ability to provide documentation of travel experience if applicable.
• Completion of a skills checklist that matches the specialty required for this position.

Additional Information

The unit comprises 64 beds dedicated to adult patients. The position may require floating to other units as per operational needs. Navy blue scrubs will be the required attire.
