Registered Nurse (RN) - Medical Surgical

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in Medical Surgical care. The ideal candidate will provide high-quality nursing care to patients with various diagnoses, including dementia, diabetes, COVID-19, pneumonia, COPD, sepsis, encephalopathy, GI bleed, anemia, and hip fractures.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain target patient ratios of 1:5-6.
• Administer medications and perform treatments as prescribed.
• Monitor patient vital signs and report any changes to the healthcare team.
• Manage and interpret telemetry for patients requiring remote monitoring.
• Provide colostomy care and feeding tube management.
• Assist in pre/post hemodialysis management and blood product administration.
• Utilize Rapid Response protocols effectively.
• Perform IV therapy, including starting IVs and managing PICC lines.
• Conduct phlebotomy and peripheral line care/management.
• Implement isolation precautions and wound care, including the use of wound vacs.
• Engage with the healthcare team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience in a Medical/Surgical or Telemetry setting.
• Accepts first-time travelers and local candidates.
• Required: Basic Life Support (BCLS) certification.

Preferred Skills

• Experience in MS/Tele nursing.
• Telemetry management and interpretation of dysrhythmias.
• Proficient in using electronic health record systems such as EPIC.
• Knowledge of CVA, surgical drains, and interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs).

Shift Details

• Shift: 12-hour days (06:45 AM - 07:15 PM).
• 36 or 48 hours per week accepted.
• Contract length: 13-26 weeks.
• Minimum of 12-16 weekend shifts required per contract.
• Floating may be required based on unit needs.

Additional Information

Contract staff will be assigned to work on a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team as needed. It is expected that staff may be required to report to work during catastrophic events, mass casualties, or disasters. Contract staff must complete a 24-hour orientation, including hospital-specific training in the first week of the contract.

All candidates must successfully pass EKG testing prior to the start of the contract.

Navy and white scrubs required.
