Description:
The position is for a Med Surg Ortho RN in a medical surgical unit.
RN candidates must pass an open book exam during orientation, achieving at least a 90% to maintain the contract.
Artificial nails are prohibited in all departments providing patient care.
Failure to comply will result in termination of the contract.
Candidates must live beyond a 50-mile radius and cannot be employed with any associated facilities within the past year.
This unit has 28 beds with an overflow of 22.
Nurse-to-patient ratios are generally 1:5.
Common patient diagnoses include total knees, total hips, shoulder replacements, COPD, diabetes, wounds, IV infusions, dementia, oncology, and fractures.
RNs are not required to titrate drips, although common titratable drips include Heparin and IV antibiotics.
Charge nurses are available on each shift and do take assignments.
Patient care techs are present with a ratio of 1:10.
Monitor techs are located in ICU, while nurses may access monitoring equipment on the unit.
Shifts include self-scheduling with a commitment every third weekend.
Floating to behavioral health units may be required.
The dress code includes navy blue scrubs provided by the facility.
Unit orientation consists of classroom training followed by practical experience on the floor.
The unit emphasizes hourly rounding and bedside shift reports.
Candidates must be flexible, self-directed, and willing to adapt to changes.
Patient population primarily consists of low to middle class individuals, including those experiencing homelessness and mental health/addiction issues.
All requested time off must be submitted upfront, and additional requests will not be accommodated.
Cancellation policies allow for up to four shifts to be canceled in a 13-week assignment.
This is a Level 3 trauma care setting.
