Description:
Registered Nurses will work in a medical surgical orthopedic trauma unit.
The department provides care for patients with various diagnoses including joint replacements, fractures, and respiratory issues.
The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5-6.
Nurses will be responsible for managing drips such as Heparin, lidocaine, and ketamine.
There is a charge nurse on each shift who also takes an assignment.
Patient care techs are available with a ratio of 1:10-20.
Tele-monitor techs will interpret the strips, but RNs should have some tele-awareness.
Shifts include 0630-1900 and 1830-0700.
Travelers will be scheduled, with some approval for block scheduling.
Typically, nurses will work every other weekend, with schedules posted six weeks in advance.
Holiday requirements include working 2-3 holidays from Thanksgiving to New Year’s.
Floating to other medical surgical areas may be required based on staffing needs.
RNs will wear navy blue scrubs.
The unit focuses on patient responsiveness and hourly rounding.
Nurses must manage multiple discharges and admissions daily.
Successful candidates will demonstrate good attendance and teamwork skills.
This unit serves a diverse patient population.
Additional time off requests should be upfront, with limited approvals for changes after submission.
Shifts may be canceled according to unit needs.
Charting is completed using an electronic system.
