Job Title: RN - MedSurg/Tele Profession: RN Specialty: MedSurg/Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years MedSurg/Telemetry RN experience required License: Current RN License required Certifications: BLS required; ACLS preferred; Certification in MedSurg is a plus Must-Have: Proficiency in cardiac drips Description: Seeking an experienced RN for a MedSurg/Telemetry unit. The facility has a total of 637 licensed beds. It is designated as a Level 1 Trauma Center and also serves as a teaching hospital. It features both a Chest Pain Center and a Stroke Center. Each MedSurg unit has 20-36 beds. Patient ratios are maintained at RN 1:4-6 and LPN 1:4-6. The CNA may assist with up to 1:14 patients. The RN will be responsible for trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, and glucometer checks. Common drips include insulin and heparin, with drips titrated to heart rate, not blood pressure. Support within the department includes CNAs to assist with vital checks, bathing, bed changes, and patient safety. Unit secretaries are available from 7 AM to 11 PM, followed by a house-wide call secretary during the night shift. There will be a charge nurse on duty. Phlebotomy will generally be performed by lab collect phlebotomy services, though RNs will draw from central venous lines. A PICC team is available for specialized IV placements. There are resource nurses available, as well as discharge nurses. Respiratory therapy is available 24/7, along with hospitalist and intensivist coverage. Telemetry monitoring is managed through a central telemetry unit. The electronic medical record system used is EPIC. IV pumps and medication dispensing systems are utilized. Unit-specific equipment includes vital sign monitors and glucose stat strips. Travelers will float to all MedSurg/Telemetry units as needed. The unit culture is described as busy and team-oriented. Candidates must be proficient in managing cardiac drips.
