Job Title: RN - MedSurg/Tele Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: MedSurg/Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Day Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum 2 years required License: BLS required Certifications: ACLS preferred, National certification in Medical-Surgical preferred but not required Must-Have: Strong clinical assessment and med-surg nursing skills for a Level 1 Trauma Hospital Experience in trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, glucomander, insulin drips, heparin drips IV insertion and care, central line management, wound care, and post-op monitoring Cardiac monitoring and telemetry interpretation Care coordination with interdisciplinary teams Discharge planning and patient education, particularly on renal and fluid management Description: This position requires an RN specialized in MedSurg/Telemetry. The facility consists of 637 licensed beds and has a Level 1 Trauma designation. It serves as a teaching hospital and is recognized as a Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center. The unit has a capacity of 20 beds with a typical census of 20 patients. The patient population includes diverse cases such as strokes, brain injuries, and acute or chronic diseases. Common co-morbidities in this patient group include diabetes, hypertension, infections, and heart failure. Patient ratios are set at 1 RN to 4-6 patients, with LPNs and CNAs supporting care. A CNA will assist with vital signs, glucose checks, hygiene tasks, ambulation, and patient transportation. Each unit has a charge nurse to oversee operations, and there is a resource team for additional support. Telemetry monitoring is provided around the clock. The hospital utilizes an electronic medical record system. Key equipment includes IV pumps, vital sign monitors, and telemetry monitors. Nurses are expected to manage PCA pain and follow admission/discharge protocols for efficient patient turnover. Weekend shifts require working 5-6 weekends out of a 12-week period. Holiday expectations include working one major holiday shift. Requests for time off must be approved by management. Scrubs are navy for RNs and ceil blue for LPNs. The unit's culture emphasizes teamwork in a busy environment.
