Job Title: RN - MedSurg/Tele Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: MedSurg/Telemetry Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 12hr Day Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum 2 Years of Experience Required License: RN License Required Certifications: BLS, BCR Required; ACLS Preferred; National Certification in Medical-Surgical or Nephrology Nursing Preferred Must-Have: - Strong clinical assessment and med-surg nursing skills - Management of peritoneal dialysis (manual and cycler) - IV insertion and care; central line management - Wound care and post-operative monitoring - Cardiac monitoring and telemetry interpretation - Care coordination with interdisciplinary team - Discharge planning and patient education, particularly on renal and fluid management Description: This position involves working in a unit with 20 beds and a typical patient census of 20. The patient population includes those with acute or chronic kidney disease, including end-stage renal disease. Inpatient treatments for peritoneal dialysis patients are provided on the unit. Common diagnoses include post-operative urology or renal-related surgeries, diabetes, hypertension, infections, congestive heart failure, and electrolyte imbalances. The RN will manage patients with anemia, fluid overload, and renal-related complications. The patient-to-nurse ratio is approximately 1:4-6, with a CNA assisting 1-2 per shift. Responsibilities include performing tracheostomy care, chest tube management, and IV starts. The RN will also be responsible for administering insulin and heparin drips, titrated to heart rate. Team support includes CNAs who assist with vital signs, glucose checks, bathing, feeding, and ambulating patients. Charge nurses are available on each unit, and additional support is provided by respiratory therapists and hospitalists. The hospital utilizes an electronic medical record system, and various monitoring and treatment technologies are available. There is a structured weekend rotation with 5-6 weekend shifts over a 6-week schedule. The RN is expected to work one shift during each major holiday. Requests for time off require manager approval. Teamwork is emphasized within a busy unit culture.
