Description:
Seeking a MedSurg/Tele RN for a busy unit.
The facility has a total of 637 licensed beds.
It has a Level 1 Trauma Designation and serves as a teaching hospital.
The unit has 35 beds and typically maintains a census of around 35 patients.
Patient types include:
- Orthopedic and trauma cases, including fractures of all types.
- Head trauma and hemorrhage cases.
- Patients with acute or chronic diseases and post-operative surgery needs.
- Common co-morbidities include diabetes, hypertension, infections, congestive heart failure, and electrolyte imbalances.
Patient ratios are as follows:
- RN to patient ratio of 1:4-6.
- LPN to patient ratio of 1:4-6.
- CNAs are assigned 2-3 per shift.
Required skills include:
- Trach care and chest tube management.
- Peripheral IV starts and management of insulin and heparin drips.
- Strong clinical assessment skills and familiarity with wound care.
- Cardiac monitoring and telemetry interpretation.
- Coordination of care with interdisciplinary teams and discharge planning.
Support within the department includes:
- CNAs assisting with vital signs, glucose checks, baths, and ambulation.
- Receptionist coverage on unit during specific hours.
- Charge nurses may also have patient assignments.
- A PICC team available for central line management.
- Resource nurses and a 24/7 respiratory therapy team.
Technology and equipment utilized include:
- An electronic medical record system.
- IV pumps and medication dispensing systems.
- Portable vital signs monitors and cardiac telemetry monitoring equipment.
The orientation consists of work on educational modules and departmental training.
The schedule includes a weekend rotation of 5-6 shifts out of 12 in a 6-week cycle.
There is no on-call requirement.
Holiday expectations include working one shift during major holidays.
