Job Title: RN - MedSurg/Tele Profession: Nursing Specialty: MedSurg/Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Day Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum 2 years Med/Tele RN experience License: Active RN License Certifications: BLS required; ACLS preferred Must-Have: Traveler will be required to pass an EKG competency exam during onboarding. Certification in MedSurg is a plus. Telemetry skills: monitoring and interpreting cardiac rhythms. Ability to manage post-cath patients, including groin site management. Experience with administering and titrating specific drips for heart rate management. Description: The MedSurg/Tele unit consists of 20-36 beds. Patient types include those with acute or chronic diseases and common co-morbidities, such as diabetes and hypertension. Common diagnoses consist of cardiac patients post-cath, those with congestive heart failure, atrial fibrillation, and post-surgical cases including general, orthopedic, and trauma. Patient ratios are RN: 1:4-6, LPN: 1:4-6, and CNA: up to 1:14. Support services include CNA assistance with vitals, blood glucose checks, and patient safety attendant duties. Unit Secretary is available from 7 AM to 11 PM. Charge nurse may or may not have patient responsibilities. Phlebotomy and IV/VAT team support are present, with RNs drawing from central venous lines. A resource nurse is available, along with a discharge nurse team and RT on site 24/7. Technology used includes an electronic medical record system, IV pumps, and specific monitoring equipment. Travelers may be required to float to all Med/Tele units as needed. Scheduling includes weekend rotations and holiday expectations. Requests for time off must be approved by management. The unit culture is busy and team-oriented.
