Job Title: RN - MedSurg/Tele Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: MedSurg/Tele Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 12-Hour Day Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience required License: Registered Nurse License required Certifications: BLS required, ACLS preferred, Medical-surgical certification preferred but not required Must-Have: Strong clinical assessment and med-surg nursing skills for Level 1 Trauma Hospital. IV insertion and care, central line management. Trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, glucometer. Insulin drips and heparin drips management. Cardiac monitoring and telemetry interpretation. Care coordination with interdisciplinary teams. Wound care and post-operative monitoring. Discharge planning and patient education, particularly on renal and fluid management. Description: The role requires the nurse to care for a diverse patient population, typically including patients with strokes and/or brain injuries. Responsibilities will include managing patients with acute or chronic diseases, and post-operative care. Common co-morbidities among the patient population include diabetes, hypertension, infections, CHF, and electrolyte imbalances. Patient ratios will typically be 1 nurse to 4-6 patients. Certified nursing assistants will assist with vital signs, glucose checks, baths, feeding, and ambulating patients. The unit will have a charge nurse for each shift and a secretary to assist during core hours. The nurse will be responsible for coordinating with respiratory therapy, hospitalists, and intensivists who are available 24/7. Telemetry monitoring will be provided through a central unit. Technology will include an electronic medical record system, vital sign monitors, and IV pumps. Essential duties require participating in the unit's admission and discharge protocol for rapid turnover. The nurse may float to adult med-surg/telemetry units within the facility as needed. Weekend rotation will require 5-6 weekend shifts out of 12 on a 6-week schedule. Holidays will require working one shift of each major holiday. Requests for time off will need manager approval. The unit culture is described as busy but collaborative, fostering teamwork.
