Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) Profession: Nursing Specialty: MedSurg/Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Day Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience License: Registered Nurse Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Basic Med/Tele skillset including cardiac rhythm interpretation. Experience with non-titrating cardiac drips (Cardizem/Amiodarone). General medical/surgical skillset for care of patients with tubes/drains. IV start skills and experience with blood products. Wound care and dressing changes experience. Description: The position is for a Registered Nurse in the MedSurg/Tele specialty. The facility has 241 licensed beds and operates as a Level 3 Trauma Center. It is also a Certified Chest Pain Center and a Stroke Center. The unit consists of 24 beds with an average daily census of 24 patients. Patient types include various diagnoses in cardiac, respiratory, neuro, etc. The environment is fast-paced, focusing on observation care. Patient ratios are RN: 1:5-6 during the day and night, potentially increasing to 1:7-8 during surge staffing. CNA to patient ratio is 1:12. Support within the department includes a charge nurse who is a resource for staff and does not have a patient assignment. Additional support includes phlebotomy, an IV/VAT team, respiratory therapy 24/7, and hospitalists on site during the day. Telemetry monitoring is conducted remotely with the assistance of tele tech personnel. The electronic medical record system used is EPIC, and at least 6 months of experience is required. Technology includes Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Massimo monitors in all rooms. Floating may be required within the region and scope of practice. The schedule includes weekend rotations every other week. There may be potential to be placed on low census call. Mandatory expectations include working 75% of holidays and being available for low census call. Requests for time off can be approved for up to 6 days, excluding holidays. Shift times are generally from 0645 to 1915 and 1845 to 0715. The schedule is cycled every 6 weeks. The unit culture is described as positive and supportive.
