RN - MedSurg/Tele

About Facility:
  • Albemarle, NC, 28001
  • 109 Licensed Beds
  • No Trauma Designation
  • Not a Teaching Hospital – no residents/students
  • Advanced Primary Stroke Center
  • Radius rule: Traveler s permanent address must be 50 miles outside of home unit

Unit Information:
  • Beds: 27
  • Census: Average 20
  • Minimum Years of Experience required: 18 months Med/Tele experience
  • Will you accept a first-time traveler: Not preferred, will consider (Resource Team)
  • Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:
  • Stroke, COPD, Chest Pain, Altered Mental Status, GI bleed

Patient Ratios:
  • RN: 1:5-6, acuity dependent - (surge staffing could increase ratios up to 1:7-8)
  • Required License, National Certification, Certs (BLS, ACLS, etc.), or other position specific requirements such as Driver's License and/or Insurance:
  • BLS, ACLS, NIHSS

Skills required:
  • General Med/Tele skillset: Stroke experience/NIH assessments, Chest tube management, PIV starts, trach care, Cardiac rhythm interpretation, NGT placement, drain/tube management (Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, foley insertion/management, etc), PCA pumps
  • Medication gtt management to include: Cardiac drips, Heparin, blood products, IVF

Support within the Department:
  • CNA: Duties- Yes, CNA s can insert foleys if certified and remove IV s for Discharge if certified, in addition to Vitals, ADLs, etc.
  • Receptionist/HUC: Dayshift only
  • Charge nurse – may or may not have patient assignment
  • Phlebotomy, 24/7
  • No designated IV/VAT Team
  • RT, 24/7
  • Hospitalist, 24/7
  • Telemetry monitoring/tech: Yes

Technology/Equipment:
  • EMR: Epic
  • IV Pump: Alaris
  • Med dispensing: Omnicell
  • Monitors: Philips
  • Floating: If yes, where: Within region and scope of practice
  • Will be required to float per region needs – will require floating to all facilities listed below, as needed, within scope of practice – DECLINE if not agreeable
  • Region 1 - Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, Central Division (peds only) -- could float to any of the facilities within region if the need arises
  • If floating mid-shift, Traveler will be paid for the time traveling between facilities (will remain on the clock)
