The nurse will be responsible for managing a patient workload with a ratio of 1:5-6. The unit cares for adult patients post-operatively from spinal surgeries. The patient population includes a variety of diagnoses such as medical/surgical, telemetry, cardiac conditions, and diabetes. The unit specializes in spinal surgeries, which include laminectomies, spinal fusions, and discectomies. Nursing responsibilities include patient assessments, administration of medications, and coordination of care with interdisciplinary teams. Special procedures performed in the unit include bedside lumbar punctures and post-surgical care. Staff may be required to float to other units as needed based on patient census. Interdisciplinary support is available from physical therapy, respiratory services, and other allied health professionals. The nurse will also engage in pain management and mobility support for patients.
