Job Description & Requirements

Role: RN – MedSurg/Telemetry
Shift: 12-hour Nights (1900–0700)
Hours: 36 hrs/week
Location: Shelby, North Carolina
Facility Size: 241 licensed beds
Trauma Level: Level III
Unit: 24-bed MedSurg/Tele Observation Unit
Average Census: 24 patients
Experience & Certifications Required
- Minimum 18 months Med/Tele RN experience
- First-time travelers accepted
- Required certifications:
- BLS
- ACLS
- NIHSS
- Minimum 6 months EPIC experience required
Patient Population
- Cardiac
- Respiratory
- Neurological
- General medical/surgical observation patients
Staffing & Ratios
- RN ratio: 1:5–6
- May increase to 1:7–8 during surge staffing
- CNA ratio: 1:12
- Charge nurse available (may carry patients)
- Additional support:
- Phlebotomy
- IV/VAT Team
- Respiratory Therapy (24/7)
- Intensivist (24/7)
- Remote telemetry monitoring
Required Skills
- Cardiac rhythm interpretation
- Management of non-titrating cardiac drips:
- Cardizem
- Amiodarone
- IV starts
- Blood administration
- Wound care/dressing changes
- Tubes/drains management
- General Med/Surg nursing skills
Equipment & Systems
- EMR: EPIC
- IV Pumps: Alaris
- Medication Dispensing: Omnicell
- Monitoring: Masimo
