Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: MedSurg/Tele Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Night Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience required License: Required nursing license Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience BLS ACLS NIHSS Description: The facility has 457 licensed beds and is a Trauma Level III Teaching Hospital. It is recognized as a Chest Pain Center and a Stroke Center of Excellence. It is also a Bariatric Center of Excellence. The unit has 28 beds available for patient care. The patient types and common diagnoses include orthopedic surgery, spine surgery, trauma, vascular surgery, and medical overflow. Patient ratios for nurses are 1:4-6, with surge times reaching 1:7-8. General post-surgical skill sets required include incision care, patient assessment, management of drains and chest tubes, wound care and VAC applications, mobility assistance, education, trach care, NG tube insertion, and the use of braces/traction. Support within the department includes: CNA support for phlebotomy, activities of daily living, and Foley catheter insertion/removal. Charge nurse support when available, along with an IV/VAT team. Mentorship is provided to assist in finding policy information and ensuring proper clinical support. Respiratory Therapy is available 24/7, along with hospitalists on site. Remote telemetry monitoring is utilized for patient safety. A house supervisor serves as an additional resource for information and support. Virtual Patient Observation and Patient Safety Attendants are employed for patients needing extra observation and redirection. A Behavioral Response Team (BERT) is available for de-escalation measures. A Rapid Response/Code Team is called for significant changes in patient condition, including respiratory or cardiac arrest. Technology and equipment used include an electronic medical record system, IV pumps, medication dispensing systems, and patient monitors. Flexibility is required as floating to different facilities may be necessary based on regional needs and within the scope of practice. Fluid scheduling includes weekend rotations and holiday work commitments. Requests for time off are permitted, excluding holidays, and must be added to the end of the contract if not fulfilled within the contracted hours. The schedule cycle spans six weeks.
