Job Title: RN - MedSurg/Tele Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: MedSurg/Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years Med/Tele RN experience required License: RN License required Certifications: BLS (Basic Life Support) required, EKG competency required, ACLS preferred, Medical-Surgical certification preferred Must-Have: Strong clinical assessment and Med-Surg nursing skills required. Description: The role involves providing nursing care to patients in a MedSurg/Tele environment. The facility is a Level 1 Trauma designation and a teaching hospital. It has a total of 637 licensed beds. The unit has 35 beds with a typical patient census of 35. Patients may present with acute or chronic diseases, post-operative conditions, and common co-morbidities such as diabetes, hypertension, infections, congestive heart failure, and electrolyte imbalances. Nurse-to-patient ratios are typically 1:4-6. LPN and CNA support are also available on the unit. CNA duties include assisting with vital signs, glucose checks, bathing, feeding, ambulation, hourly rounding, and transporting patients. There are discharge nurses and a resource team available for support. Telemetry monitoring is done by a central telemetry unit. The team includes Respiratory Therapy and Hospitalists available 24/7. Nurses will manage chest tubes, perform IV insertions, and care for central lines. Wound care and post-operative monitoring are also key responsibilities. Discharge planning and patient education management will be part of the role. Technology includes EPIC EMR, Alaris IV pumps, and Phillips monitors. The unit uses various equipment such as vital sign monitors, glucose stat strips, and bladder scanners. The schedule includes a weekend rotation of 5-6 weekend shifts out of 12 in a 6-week schedule. Holiday shifts include working one shift of each major holiday. Requests for time off must receive manager approval. Scrub colors are navy for RNs and ceil blue for LPNs. The unit culture emphasizes teamwork and a busy work environment.
