Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: MedSurg/Tele Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years Med/Tele RN experience License: RN License required Certifications: BLS required, Basic Cardiac Rhythm required, ACLS preferred, Medical-Surgical certification preferred Must-Have: Strong clinical assessment and med-surg nursing skills Description: RN - MedSurg/Tele position available. The facility has 637 licensed beds and a Level 1 Trauma Designation. It is a teaching hospital with a Chest Pain Center and a Stroke Center. The unit has 35 beds with a census of 35 patients. Patient diagnoses include acute or chronic diseases, post-operative surgeries, and common comorbidities such as diabetes, hypertension, infections, congestive heart failure, and electrolyte imbalances. Patient ratios are structured as follows: RN to patient ratio is 1:4-6, LPN is also 1:4-6, and there are 2-3 CNAs per shift. Required skills include: - Trach care and chest tube management - PIV starts and glucomander use - Insulin and heparin drip management - Strong clinical assessment - IV insertion and care, central line management - Wound care and post-operative monitoring - Cardiac monitoring and telemetry interpretation - Care coordination with the interdisciplinary team - Discharge planning and patient education management Support within the department includes the presence of CNAs to assist with vital signs, glucose checks, baths, feeding, ambulation, and hourly rounding. Nursing staff may perform their own phlebotomy tasks. There is a resource team available, along with respiratory therapists and hospitalists on duty 24/7. Technology and equipment used in the unit includes EMR, IV pumps, med dispensing systems, and cardiac telemetry monitoring. Unit specific equipment includes vital sign monitors, glucose stat strips, bladder scanners, portable oxygen systems, chest tubes, drains, and PCA pain management systems. Nurses may float to other adult med-surg and telemetry units as needed. A one-day orientation followed by work on educational modules and two days departmental training will be provided. The unit culture is described as busy, but team-oriented.
