Job Title: MedSurg/Tele Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: MedSurg/Tele Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12hr Night Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum of 2 years Med/Tele RN experience preferred. First-time travelers may be considered. License: Registered Nurse License Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: General Med/Tele skills including stroke experience, cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, drain/tube management, PCA pumps, and medication management for cardiac drips, Heparin, blood products, and IVF. Description: This facility features 874 licensed beds and is a Level I Trauma Teaching Hospital. The MedSurg/Tele unit focuses on decompressing the Emergency Department and other specialty areas within the hospital. The patient population includes adults and geriatrics. Common diagnoses treated in the unit include COPD exacerbation, pneumonia, CHF exacerbation, falls with injuries, MVC with injuries, pulmonary embolism, DVT, UTI, pneumothorax, GI bleeds, and CVA. Patient ratios for the RN on the unit are generally 1:4, with additional support from LPNs and CNAs. Support within the department includes Certified Nursing Assistants who perform vital sign checks, hygiene care, and assist with patient needs, as well as a secretary and resource nurses available for support around the clock. Telemetry monitoring is managed by the nursing team, with responsibility for interpreting telemetry readings assigned to individual nurses each shift. All nurses are expected to float within the region as needed, adhering to their scope of practice. Traveling nurses will be scheduled for a weekend rotation every other weekend and are required to work 75% of holidays. Requests for time off can be approved up to 6 days, excluding holidays. Scrub color is navy blue. The unit culture is described as a family-oriented environment where every team member feels like they belong.
