Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Tele RN for a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital, requiring 2+ years of Med/Tele RN experience and a GA or compact RN license.

Details

• 30-bed Med/Surg Telemetry unit within a Level 1 Trauma, teaching hospital with Chest Pain and Stroke Center designations
• Patient population includes heart failure, A-Fib, AKI/CKD, respiratory failure, COPD, asthma, NSTEMI, sepsis, and diabetes along with post-op and post cardiac procedure patients
• RN staffing ratio of 1:4-6, LPN ratio of 1:4-6, with 2-3 CNAs per shift
• 12-hour night shift schedule (7P-7A), 36 hours per week
• Weekend rotation of 5-6 shifts out of 12 on a 6-week schedule
• No on-call requirements
• Floating required to all adult med-surg/telemetry units in house
• EPIC EMR experience required
• Uses Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and Phillips monitors
• Unit equipped with VS3 vital sign monitors, Nova Glucose Stat Strips, Dynamapp portable vital sign monitors, bladder scanners, PCA pumps, and suction machines
• 24/7 RT, Hospitalist, and Intensivist coverage available
• Unit supported by CNAs, resource/discharge nurses, and a PICC team

Requirements

• Active RN license (GA or Compact) required
• BLS required; ACLS preferred
• BCR (Basic Cardiac Rhythm) competency exam required as part of compliance
• Medical-Surgical national certification preferred but not required
• Minimum 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience required
• Experience with trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, insulin and heparin drips, and cardiac drip titration for HR
• Central line management, IV insertion, and groin management skills required
• Wound care, post-op monitoring, and foley catheter care experience required
• Cardiac monitoring and telemetry interpretation skills required
• EPIC EMR experience required
• Last 4 digits of SSN and full DOB required for consideration
• Minimum 1 professional reference within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care including discharge planning and patient education focused on renal and fluid management
• Coordinate care with interdisciplinary teams including hospitalists, intensivists, and respiratory therapists
• Unit culture described as busy but team-oriented
• 1 day of facility orientation plus 2 days of departmental orientation
• Scrub color requirement: Navy for RNs
• Required to work one shift for each major holiday, with travelers expected to work 75% of holidays
• RTO requests subject to manager approval
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Returning employees must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year after working a permanent position
