Travel Nurse RN - Med/Surg / Telemetry - $1,927 per week in Houston, TX

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: MedSurg/Telemetry Duration: 6 months Shift: 12-hour Days Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: 3 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: - Proficient with IV starts and blood draws - Strong general medicine/internal medicine experience - Must be tele competent for floating purposes Description: This unit has 20 beds. The nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:5. RNs will handle the majority of phlebotomy and IV starts. Common diagnoses include cellulitis, abdominal pain, inpatient rehab patients, surgical overflow, and infections. The floor usually accommodates a lower acuity population. RNs are required to titrate drips including heparin and lasix. There are no telemetry monitors on the floor, but RNs must pass a tele competency exam. Charge nurses are present every shift and may have patient assignments as census changes. There are nurse aides on the unit, with a general nurse-to-aide ratio of 1:15, which may change to 1:10 at full capacity. RT equipment is shared between floors, with home CPAP setups provided by RT. 12-hour shifts run from 7 AM to 7 PM, with huddles starting at 6:45 AM. Scheduling is done monthly, and every other weekend and holiday rotation are required. RNs must float to other MedSurg/Telemetry floors as needed. Scrub color is navy. The charting system is Epic, and previous experience is preferred. Basic EKG knowledge is essential as RNs must interpret strips and manage cardiac drips when floating.
