Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position requiring 2+ years of Med/Tele RN experience and a GA or compact RN license.

Details

• Work on a 30-bed Med/Surg Tele unit within a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital
• Care for post/pre cardiac and step-down ICU patients with diagnoses including CHF, COPD, STEMI, NSTEMI, and sepsis
• RN to patient ratio of 1:4-6, with 2-3 CNAs per shift
• 12-hour night shifts, 7p-7a, 36 hours per week
• Weekend rotation of 5-6 shifts on a 6-week schedule
• No on-call requirements
• Floating required to all med surg/telemetry units in the facility
• Uses EPIC EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis med dispensing, and Phillips monitors
• Central Telemetry Unit monitors cardiac telemetry
• Unit supported by charge nurse, CNAs, unit secretary, resource/discharge nurses, and 24/7 RT, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage
• PICC team available; lab collect phlebotomy on most units

Requirements

• Active RN license (GA or Compact) required
• BLS certification required
• Basic Cardiac Rhythm (BCR) certification required, including an EKG rhythm exam during onboarding
• ACLS certification preferred but not required
• Medical-surgical national certification preferred but not required
• Minimum 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience required
• Minimum 12 months of core work experience in the specialty unit, with most recent experience within the last year
• Experience with trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, glucommander, insulin drips, heparin drips, and heart rate titration drips
• Strong clinical assessment and med-surg nursing skills for a Level 1 Trauma hospital setting
• IV insertion, central line management, and wound/post-op monitoring experience
• Cardiac monitoring and telemetry interpretation skills
• EPIC EMR experience required
• At least one professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

• Provide med-surg telemetry nursing care including cardiac monitoring, wound care, and post-op monitoring
• Coordinate care with interdisciplinary teams and support discharge planning, including patient education on renal and fluid management
• Orientation includes 1 day of facility orientation with educational modules and 2 days of departmental orientation
• Holiday coverage required for approximately 75% of major holidays, including Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's
• RTO requests subject to manager approval
• RN scrub color is navy

• Manager will conduct a final clinical interview
