Registered Nurse (RN) - MS/Tele

Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in Med/Surg and Telemetry to provide high-quality care to patients. This position involves working within a dynamic team environment, caring for a variety of patient diagnoses, and requires a commitment to excellence in nursing practice.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive patient care on the Med/Surg and Telemetry unit.
• Monitor patients using telemetry equipment and interpret dysrhythmias.
• Administer medications and treatments, including IV insulin, blood products, and manage intravenous lines.
• Conduct pre/post-hemodialysis management and colostomy care.
• Perform phlebotomy and manage central and peripheral lines.
• Utilize critical care protocols, including Rapid Response Team engagement.
• Participate actively in patient education and discharge planning.
• Maintain compliance with infection control and isolation precautions.
• Prepare and participate in various unit-based classes and orientations.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in a Med/Surg and Telemetry environment.
• Active Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.
• First-time travelers are welcome; local candidates will also be considered.
• Proficiency in using Epic and Pyxis systems for medication management and documentation.
• Strong critical thinking skills and the ability to respond effectively in emergency situations.

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Experience in management of acute dysrhythmias and telemetry monitoring.
• Knowledge of interpreting arterial blood gases (ABGs) and tracheostomy management.
• Experience in caring for COVID-19 patients.
• Familiarity with surgical drains and advanced wound care management.

Work Details

• Target nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:5-6.
• Shifts: 12-hour night shifts available; flexible scheduling options of 36 or 48 hours per week.
• Minimum contract lengths of 13 to 26 weeks.
• Participation in Storm or Hurricane Teams may be required during inclement weather events.
• Floating to other units may be necessary based on patient care needs.
• Weekend shifts: Expectation of 12-16 shifts per contract.
• Unit orientation is provided, amounting to 24 hours in addition to hospital orientation.

Patient Diagnoses

The unit routinely cares for patients with conditions such as dementia, diabetes, COVID-19, pneumonia, COPD, sepsis, encephalopathy, GI bleed, anemia, and hip fractures.

Dress Code

Participants are required to wear navy and white scrubs during their shifts.

Additional Information

Candidates must pass EKG testing prior to commencing work in this specialty.
