Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical-Surgical/Telemetry (Neuroscience) to provide high-quality, patient-centered care in a fast-paced acute care environment. This position focuses on caring for adult and geriatric patients with neurological and complex medical conditions, including stroke, seizure disorders, and other high-acuity medical-surgical diagnoses. The ideal candidate is an experienced travel nurse with strong telemetry, neurological assessment, and leadership skills.

Key Responsibilities
Deliver comprehensive nursing care to adult and geriatric patients with neurological and medical-surgical conditions.
Assess, monitor, and document patient status while recognizing and responding to changes in clinical condition.
Administer medications, blood products, intravenous therapies, and cardiac medications in accordance with physician orders.
Interpret cardiac rhythms and monitor telemetry patients.
Manage peripheral IVs, central lines, PICC lines, and blood draws from central venous access devices.
Provide care for patients requiring oxygen therapy, BiPAP/CPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, chest tube management, and respiratory support.
Care for patients with stroke, transient ischemic attacks (TIA), seizures, encephalopathy, congestive heart failure (CHF), sepsis, respiratory failure, acute kidney injury, pneumonia, post-cardiac catheterization, and dialysis needs.
Assist with specialized treatments including peritoneal dialysis and continuous bladder irrigation.
Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans, medications, and discharge instructions.
Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary healthcare teams to coordinate comprehensive patient care.
Delegate appropriate patient care responsibilities while maintaining accountability for quality and patient safety.
Maintain accurate documentation using the electronic medical record system.
Participate in rapid response situations and adhere to infection prevention and patient safety standards.
Required Qualifications
Active Tennessee Registered Nurse (RN) license.
Minimum 1 year of Medical-Surgical/Telemetry nursing experience.
Previous travel nursing experience required.
Previous charge nurse experience required.
Minimum 1 year of Epic EMR experience.
Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
Current NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
Strong knowledge of neurological nursing, telemetry monitoring, and acute medical-surgical care.
Excellent assessment, critical thinking, communication, and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience managing telemetry patients.
Experience with wound care and wound vacuum therapy.
Experience accessing and managing implanted ports.
Familiarity with feeding tube management, ostomy care, and continuous bladder irrigation.
Schedule
13-week contract (option to extend up to 26 weeks)
36 hours per week
Three 12-hour night shifts
Shift: 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
Every other weekend required.
Floating to other qualified units based on patient care needs is required.
