Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse (RN) Specialty: Med Surg/Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: 2+ Years of Med Surg Experience, Experience floating to PCU, Proficient with Telemetry License: Active Michigan License Certifications: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA) Must-Have: Covid Vaccine Required, Exemptions Allowed Ability to read and interpret heart rhythms Must pass a dysrhythmia test prior to working on the floor Description: The registered professional nurse is responsible for the delivery of patient care through the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. They are responsible for providing direction and guidance for patient teaching and activities of ancillary personnel while maintaining standards of professional nursing. The position strives for superior performance by consistently providing service recognized as contributing to the patient and family experience. Primary job responsibilities include: Assessing the physical, psychological, and social dimensions and educational needs of patients upon admission. Identifying patient needs and formulating a written care plan based on assessment. Initiating the care plan within 24 hours of admission. Implementing the plan of care and documenting its effectiveness in the medical record. Revising and updating the care plan as necessary or at least every 24 hours. Establishing a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, friends, and families. Promoting patient independence by establishing care goals, teaching patients and families about their conditions, medications, and self-care skills, and answering questions. Assuring quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards and measuring health outcomes against patient care goals. Resolving patient problems and needs by utilizing multidisciplinary team strategies. Protecting patients and staff by adhering to infection control policies and medication administration protocols. Maintaining continuity of care by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing patient needs. Fostering a cooperative relationship among healthcare teams by communicating information, responding to requests, and participating in problem-solving methods. Utilizing leadership skills through delegation, communication, and evaluation of team members. Recognizing changes in patient status and providing appropriate interventions and documentation. Providing ongoing patient and family education based on daily assessment of disease processes and care requirements. Prioritizing care based on individual patient needs. Demonstrating a strong focus on patient education. Initiating appropriate referrals to meet patients’ discharge needs in collaboration with case management. Participating in in-service and/or continuing education to maintain and improve understanding of healthcare trends. Attending a minimum of eight monthly staff meetings annually. Communicating identified unit problems through the appropriate chain of command and participating in the problem-solving process. Demonstrating job-related aspects of patient safety to assure a safe environment and effective use of equipment. Demonstrating knowledge of and supporting the organization’s mission, vision, and values, as well as compliance with confidentiality and customer service standards. Demonstrating the knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care to patients served. Performing other duties as assigned.
