Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: RN Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Third Shift Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: No experience required. Previous nursing experience preferred. License: Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the applicable state. Certifications: BLS certification preferred. Must-Have: - Accepts responsibility for words, actions, attitude, and results while meeting deadlines and performance expectations. - Practices effective, clear, and respectful communications (both verbal and written) and demonstrates attentiveness through active listening and engaged body language. - Collaborates, respects, and cooperates with all co-workers, valuing differences and addressing concerns directly, while actively contributing to the vision and results of the team. - Warmly, personally, and professionally greets all internal and external customers, promoting a high level of satisfaction by providing information about what to expect, actively listening, and intentionally following up on questions and concerns, including taking corrective action when necessary. - Shows an understanding and knowledge of computer systems and applications and/or ability to be trained. - Ability to communicate and collaborate with other care team members. - Ability to assess age-specific patient safety issues and implement appropriate safety devices for all patients. Description: The RN implements professional nursing practice centered on the patient as a whole person and the creation of a caring environment focused on healing and wellness. Nursing practices are based on evidence and current research as well as hospital and department policies and procedures, regulatory standards, and professional guidelines. Clinical decision-making incorporates all four phases of the nursing process, critical thinking, and creativity. Nursing excellence is promoted through helping relationships among nursing staff and across other disciplines. Coordinating, ensuring, and providing direct patient care activities on the unit includes the provision of nursing rounds, assessments, and treatments. Facilitating admission, transfer, and discharge activities is also part of the role, along with the provision of patient and family-centered education and care coordination. The RN performs and documents a comprehensive assessment in accordance with the RN's scope of practice and hospital policies and procedures. Consideration of the patient’s culture, age and developmental level is essential. Identifying patient risk factors and presenting complaints is part of the assessment process. Data collection includes both objective and subjective information. The RN develops a problem list and prioritizes patient needs based on input from the inter-professional team. Actions and interventions are designed to be relevant to the patient’s culture and age. Desired outcomes are determined in coordination with the patient and family in accordance with the medical plan of care. The RN fully implements patient care therapies and procedures with empowerment and clinical autonomy within the scope of practice. Patient procedures, treatments, and processes are explained to patients and families. The RN recognizes and responds to changes in the patient’s condition appropriately. Ongoing assessment and response to procedures and therapies are documented according to hospital policy. Delegation of tasks occurs appropriately, with oversight of team members in patient care activities. Monitoring the accuracy and completeness of delegated patient care is essential for implementing the plan of care. The RN identifies and addresses educational needs of patients related to prioritized problems. Facilitating the patient discharge process and assuring timely execution of discharge orders are vital responsibilities. The RN provides input into patient/nurse assignments based on staffing, unit activity, and patient acuity. Active participation in unit-based activities in support of organizational values and priorities is expected. Promoting a positive group dynamic and healing environment through words and actions is encouraged. Assurance of nursing excellence in accordance with accepted standards, evidence-based practice, and current research is essential. Participation in department and/or unit quality improvement activities and core measures is expected. The RN uses a holistic perspective regarding patient care.
