Registered Nurse (RN) - MS/Tele Float

Position Overview

This is an ED Holding Support position located in the Float Pool. The ED Holding unit accommodates patients within the Emergency Department who are awaiting inpatient beds in the hospital. Patients may present with various medical or surgical adult diagnoses. Travelers may also care for PCU level patients and are expected to manage MS/Tele cases while floating to ED and MedSurg areas as needed.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients waiting for inpatient beds.
• Manage both medical surgical and telemetry patient cases, including PCU level patients.
• Float to different units such as the Emergency Department and MedSurg as required.
• Participate in the management of complex patient needs, including dysrhythmias and telemetry monitoring.
• Utilize Rapid Response Teams as necessary to ensure patient safety.

Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience required; travel nursing experience preferred.
• Certifications: Current BLS and ACLS certifications are required.
• Preferred Skills: NIHSS, IV insulin protocols, Pre/Post Hemodialysis management, accessing ports, central line blood draws, and experience with varied patient diagnoses such as CVA, neuro surgeries, and total joint replacements.

Patient Care

The patient population includes adults with a range of medical and surgical diagnoses. Nurses will be expected to effectively handle high-acuity patients and practice within established protocols and guidelines.

Working Conditions

• Shift: Night shifts, either 36 or 48 hours per week.
• Ratios: Target ratios are 1:6 for MS/Tele and 1:4 for PCU-level patients.
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend is required.
• RTO Policy: Request Time Off is limited to a maximum of 7 days.
• Emergency Response: Contract staff will be assigned to Storm and Hurricane Teams and may be required to report to work during emergency situations or disasters.

Orientation and Training

All new hires will undergo a 12-hour orientation to familiarize themselves with unit protocols and expectations.

Uniform

Scrubs should be navy blue.

Special Equipment and Systems

Standard equipment includes cardiac monitors, IV pumps, and other monitoring systems. Familiarity with Pyxis for medication management, Epic for documentation, and SBAR for communication is beneficial.

Additional Notes

Candidates must pass EKG Testing prior to starting in this specialty. Due to the high turnover rate, all candidates will be interviewed.
