Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: MedSurg/Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights every other week, nights, first to float Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience required License: RN License required Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: Experience reading basic telemetry strips. Experience with general and orthopedic surgical patients. Experience with CVA and TIA patients. Description: Unit is a combined telemetry and surgical/neuro unit. The unit has a total of 48 beds. Patient ratios are 1:5. Common diagnoses include COVID, respiratory issues, GI disorders, diabetes, TIA, and CVA, as well as general, orthopedic, and spinal surgical patients. All RNs are required to interpret telemetry strips and sign at least once per shift. Monitor techs read and post telemetry strips remotely. RNs are not required to titrate drips, but the unit does use some set-rate drips like Diltiazem. There will be Nurse Aides on the unit with ratios of 1:10-15. Equipment used includes BiPAP, CPAP, high flow, and some breathing treatments. Shifts are scheduled for 12 hours from 7 AM to 7:30 PM with a 30-minute unpaid lunch. Self-scheduling is utilized, but the manager will balance the final schedule. Weekend requirements are two weekends per four-week schedule. For holidays such as Christmas, New Year's, and Thanksgiving, a specific shift rotation is expected. Floating to other units may be required. Navy blue scrubs are the dress code for the unit. The charting system used is Cerner.
