Job Title: Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical Profession: Nursing Specialty: RN Medical Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 1 year of MedSurg/Tele experience required. License: RN License Certifications: BLS, NIHSS; ACLS preferred Must-Have: Experience with cardiac and neuro patient types, NG tube placement/management, foley placement/management, chest tube management, wound care, central line/ports/midline blood draws, cardiac rhythm interpretation, and drips. Description: This unit is a Level IV Trauma center with 100 beds. The unit consists of 28 beds. The average patient census is 20-22 patients per day. Patient demographics are primarily geriatric. Common diagnoses include cardiac issues, neurological conditions, and general medical cases. Patient ratios for RNs are 1:4-5 during the day and 1:6-7 at night, with occurrences of 1:8 being uncommon. CNAs assist with patient ambulation, activities of daily living, vital signs, intake/output, and blood sugar checks. Charge RNs take reduced patient assignments. There is support from a Health Unit Coordinator until 2300 hours. Phlebotomy services are available for lab draws. Respiratory Therapy is present 24/7. Hospitalist services are available around the clock. Occupational, Physical, and Speech Therapy are available during the day. Centralized telemonitoring is provided with tele techs. EMR is utilized. Monitors and IV equipment are specialized for the unit. RNs may need to float to other MedSurg units or care areas within the facility, if necessary. Weekend rotation is every other week, with holiday expectations of 50%. The schedule is created in 6-week increments, released 3 weeks prior to the start date. Scrub colors should be solid, professional, with no graphics or designs. There is a current emphasis on culture and engagement within the unit, promoting teamwork and support among staff.
