Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical Center Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12hr Night Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: 2 years License: RN Certifications: BLS Must-Have: Cardiac gtts (Primacor, Amiodarone, Cardizem, Dobutamine), heparin, lasix, and insulin gtt. Experience with chest tubes, tracheostomies, telemetry reading, and wound care. Description: The facility is a Level III Trauma Center with a Level III NICU and a Magnet Designation. It is a Comprehensive Stroke Center with a total of 933 beds. Experience is preferred with various patient types, including those in the cath lab, amputations, and pre-surgical phases. Most surgical patients do not return unless intervention is required. Open heart and vascular patients will not return for the same condition. Additional patient types include CHF, EP studies, afib, dysrhythmias, and Coumadin loading. Patient ratios for RNs during day and PM shifts are 1:4-5, and 1:6-8 during overnight shifts. Tech ratio during days is 1:6, and nights is 1:7. Support on the unit includes a charge nurse who has 2-3 patients on days with a full assignment on nights. A unit secretary and hospitalist are available 24/7, along with respiratory therapy and centralized telemetry monitoring. The preferred charting system is EPIC, and equipment includes Alaris, Pyxis, and GE monitors. Floating to other inpatient areas is possible within the RN’s scope of practice, including rare floating to ICU for appropriate assignments. Travelers will be the first to float and can do so at any time during their shift. Scheduling includes a weekend rotation every other week with no block scheduling. Time off can be approved for up to 7 days. Holiday expectations include one summer and one winter holiday. A fatigue policy in place limits staff hours, including travelers, to no more than 60 hours in a week or 5 consecutive 12-hour shifts. Scrub color is any except camo or denim. Documentation of pain levels must occur before and after administering pain medications, ensuring appropriate medication orders are in line with patient pain scores.
