Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical Center Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Night Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: 2 years License: Registered Nurse Certifications: Basic Life Support Must-Have: Cardiac medication administration skills (Primacor, Amiodarone, Cardizem, Dobutamine, Heparin, Lasix, Insulin). Ability to perform chest tube and tracheostomy care. Telemetry reading proficiency. Wound care experience. Description: This facility is a Level III Trauma Center with a Level III NICU and Magnet Designation. It functions as a Comprehensive Stroke Center with 933 beds. The unit handles a diverse range of patient types including those from cath lab, amputations, and pre-surgical patients. Patients typically do not return unless no intervention was done. Open heart and vascular patients generally do not come back. The patient population may include those with congestive heart failure, undergoing electrophysiology studies, atrial fibrillation, and dysrhythmias requiring Coumadin loading. Patient ratios are as follows: Days/PMs (0700-2330) - 1:4-5 and Overnight (2300-0700) - 1:6-8. The support team on the unit includes a Charge Nurse, Unit Secretary, Clientist, Respiratory Therapist, and a centralized telemetry monitoring team available 24/7. Charting utilizes a preferred system. Nurses may float to all other inpatient areas within their scope of practice and could possibly float to the ICU for appropriate MS patient assignments; this is rare. Weekend rotations are every other week with no block scheduling. Time off may be approved for up to 7 days. Holiday expectations include working 1 summer and 1 winter holiday. All staff members cannot work more than 60 hours per week or 5 consecutive 12-hour shifts due to fatigue policies. Scrub color is flexible, excluding camouflage and denim. Documentation of pain levels is required before and after administering pain medications. The pain level must align with the medication order.
