Job Title: RN Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical Center Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 12hr Night Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: 2 years License: RN Certifications: BLS Must-Have: Skills in managing cardiac drips, telemetry reading, and wound care; experience with chest tubes and tracheostomies. Description: This is a Level III Trauma Center with Magnet Designation. The facility has a total of 933 beds. It features a Level III NICU and is a Comprehensive Stroke Center. Patient types include those undergoing procedures in the cath lab, amputations, and pre-surgical cases. Most surgical patients will not return unless no intervention was performed. Open-heart and vascular patients typically do not return. A focus is placed on cardiac patients, including those with CHF, afib, and dysrhythmias. The patient ratios are 1:4-5 for RNs during the day shift and 1:6-8 during the night shift. Techs have a ratio of 1:6 during the day and 1:7 at night. Required skills include administering cardiac drips such as Primacor, Amiodarone, Cardizem, Dobutamine, heparin, Lasix, and insulin. The unit offers support from a charge nurse with a smaller patient load, unit secretary, hospitalist, respiratory therapy, and centralized telemetry monitoring. The charting system used is EPIC. All staff may float to other inpatient areas within their scope of practice. Travelers may be required to float to comparable acuity areas as needed. Scheduling includes a weekend rotation every other week, with no block scheduling. Time off may be approved for up to 7 days. Holiday expectations include working one summer and one winter holiday. Staff cannot work more than 60 hours in a week or more than 5 consecutive 12-hour shifts. Scrub color is flexible, but camouflage and denim are not permitted. Documentation of pain levels is required before and after administering pain medications. Pain scores must align with medication orders provided.
