Registered Nurse (RN) - Neuro Med-Surg Telemetry

Job Description

Join a dedicated team as a Registered Nurse in a Neuro Med-Surg Telemetry unit, providing exceptional care to patients with neurologic diagnoses and telemetry needs. This role is essential in delivering high-quality nursing care in a unit that is a Certified Stroke Center and Level IV Epilepsy Monitoring Unit.

Patient Care Responsibilities

• Monitor and assess patients in a 1:5 patient-to-nurse ratio.
• Provide care for patients with conditions such as CVA, ischemic stroke, epilepsy, and post-operative neurosurgery.
• Utilize continuous bedside EEG monitoring, telemetry, and bladder scanning during patient care.
• Administer medications, manage surgical drains, and provide wound care and respiratory support as needed.

Shift Details

• 3x12 hour shifts, from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM.
• Every other weekend and holiday coverage is required.

Qualifications

• 2 years of Med-Surg/Telemetry experience is required.
• Neurology experience is required.
• Experience in a teaching hospital and Level I or Level II trauma settings is preferred.
• Experience with CVA/acute stroke care and pre/post-neurosurgery is required.
• Experience with spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, feeding tube management, pre/post-hemodialysis care, and renal failure is required.
• Knowledge of surgical drain management, wound care, oxygen administration, and infection control is essential.

Certifications Required

• ACLS, BLS, and NIH Stroke Scale certifications are required.
• Basic EKG testing through Prophecy Relias is required prior to orientation.
• Maryland-approved trauma education and 8 hours of annual stroke continuing education are required.
• 4 hours of annual trauma-related continuing education is mandatory.
• TCRN certification is preferred.

Additional Requirements

• Maryland or compact RN license is required upon submission.
• Travelers may float to other units as needed, including Med-Surg and Med-Surg/Telemetry units.
• All requests for time off (RTO) must adhere to the facility's guidelines, including mandatory holiday coverage and restrictions on requests during peak periods.
• First-time travelers are welcome, and local candidates are accepted.
