Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Med Surg/Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Days Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience required License: Active RN license required Certifications: BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: - EPIC experience required - Total joint experience required - Understanding of PCA pumps, reversal drugs, and sepsis management - Experience with TPN/Lipids and narcotic usage required - Surgical experience required Description: Attention: 4 hours of billable computer modules are required the Friday prior to the start. Modules are delivered Monday and Tuesday of the week prior to the start. The 4 hours should be added to the first week's timesheet. Local clinicians are accepted. This unit handles inpatient surgical care. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4-6 at night and 1:5-6 during the day. LPNs are available, and virtual admission and discharge nurses assist as well. Primary care nursing model is frequently used, and nurses should be comfortable with this model. Common diagnoses include neuro procedures, laminectomy, cervical fusion, LESI, and various surgical interventions. Patients may also require care for dialysis, chronic pain management, and urgent OR cases. Nurses are required to interpret their own telemetry strips while a telemetry monitor technician is available. Day shift charge nurses typically take on assignments, while night shift may involve house supervisor duties. Nurse aides are present on the unit but may be assigned to other tasks as needed. The unit is fast-paced, with a high volume of surgical admissions and discharges each day. Weekend requirements include every other weekend, and holiday requirements follow a rotation with core staff. Nurses may float to similar units only and will not take on patient loads if floated to higher acuity areas.
