Med/Surg Telemetry Travel Registered Nurse (RN) – 13-Week Contract in Schenectady, NY

Travel Nursing Job Details

• Shift Duration: 12-hour day shifts, approximately 7:00 a.m.–7:30 p.m., including a 30-minute unpaid break
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Call: No call required
• Additional Scheduling: Holiday rotation; no block scheduling or self-scheduling

Registered Nurse Job Requirements

• At least 1 year of recent medical-surgical telemetry nursing experience; 2 years preferred
• Active New York Registered Nurse license, or ability to obtain licensure before starting the assignment
• Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross; certification may be obtained before the start date if needed
• Prior travel nursing experience preferred but not required
• Comfort caring for patients requiring telemetry monitoring, oxygen weaning, tracheostomy care, BiPAP/CPAP, IV therapy, and respiratory treatments
• Ability to float to comparable units within demonstrated clinical competencies

Medical-Surgical Telemetry RN Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care for medical-surgical and telemetry patients in a 32-bed unit
• Manage an expected patient assignment of approximately 5–7 patients
• Monitor cardiac rhythms and recognize changes in patient condition
• Care for primarily surgical patients and medical-surgical patients with conditions such as pneumonia, COPD, and other advanced pulmonary diseases
• Administer medications, infusions, and prescribed drips using IV pumps
• Perform phlebotomy, venipuncture, and peripheral IV starts
• Provide tracheostomy, BiPAP, CPAP, nebulizer, and oxygen-weaning support as appropriate
• Coordinate patient transports and assist with transfers, including support for patients transferring to higher levels of care
• Collaborate with physicians and the interdisciplinary care team to promote safe, effective patient outcomes
• Float to like units when needed and provide care within established competencies
