Job Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical Surgical/Telemetry provides comprehensive nursing care to adult patients with acute medical, surgical, and telemetry needs. The RN is responsible for patient assessment, medication administration, cardiac monitoring, patient education, and collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to ensure high-quality patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care.
- Monitor patients with cardiac telemetry and promptly recognize rhythm changes.
- Administer medications, IV therapies, blood products, and treatments safely.
- Care for patients with diagnoses such as CHF, COPD, Diabetes, Sepsis, Stroke, Pneumonia, Renal Failure, GI disorders, and post-operative conditions.
- Interpret cardiac rhythms and notify providers of significant changes.
- Perform wound care, central line care, Foley catheter management, and tracheostomy care as needed.
- Educate patients and families regarding disease processes, medications, discharge planning, and follow-up care.
- Collaborate with physicians, case managers, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals.
- Maintain accurate documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Respond to emergencies, rapid response events, and code situations.
- Float to other compatible units as required based on staffing needs.
Requirements
- Active RN License.
- BLS Certification (AHA) – Required.
- ACLS Certification – Preferred/Required by many facilities.
- Minimum 1–2 years of recent acute care Med Surg/Telemetry experience.
- Previous travel experience preferred (for travel assignments).
- Proficiency with EMR systems (Epic, Cerner, Meditech, etc.).
