Description:
Unit notes include a 50-mile radius rule.
The float pool encompasses various units.
The most frequent units will include several medical and surgical floors.
Typical bed counts range from 20 to 36 beds.
Most rooms are private.
Nurse to patient ratios are generally 1:5-6 during both day and night shifts, with occasional increases based on patient acuity.
Common diagnoses include Congestive Heart Failure, cardiac catheterization patients, chest pain, pneumonia, chronic renal disease, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, orthopedic cases, and oncology patients.
The unit does not require titration of drips, except for specific medications which will be provided as set rates.
Every unit has a charge nurse; the day charge does not take patients, while the night charge may take patients.
Certified Nursing Assistants are utilized within the unit to assist with patient care tasks.
Respiratory equipment management includes CPAP and BiPAP, while respiratory treatments are administered by respiratory therapists.
Telemetry monitoring capabilities are in place, with nurses expected to interpret cardiac strips.
The schedule is organized in 12-hour shifts with both days and nights available.
Weekend requirements involve every other weekend commitment, scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.
Travelers will be integrated into the holiday rotation.
Traveling nurses report to the clinical coordinator's office prior to their shift for assignments and may float to various units while adhering to patient safety ratios.
The standard dress code consists of royal blue scrubs.
Travelers will receive 1-2 shifts with a preceptor for unit orientation.
