Must-Have: All travelers must take and pass a cardiac rhythm exam.
Description:
Unit notes include a 50-mile radius rule.
Common diagnoses in the unit include CHF, cardiac catheterization, chest pain, pneumonia, chronic renal disease, COPD, orthopedic cases, and oncology patients.
Permanent staff administer chemotherapy.
Nurse-to-patient ratios mainly range from 1:5-6 for both days and nights.
Occasionally, there may be up to 7 patients based on acuity.
All travelers must demonstrate experience with telemetry.
Travelers will report to the clinical coordinator's office at the beginning of their shift for unit assignments.
They may float to multiple units but will primarily manage basic telemetry patients.
Nurses are expected to read and interpret cardiac strips but will not be required to titrate drips.
There is a charge nurse available on each unit; the charge nurse takes patient assignments during night shifts.
Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA) are utilized across units, assisting with various patient care tasks.
Respiratory therapists manage CPAP and BiPap equipment, while nurses may administer respiratory treatments.
The unit employs Philips monitors, with most units having monitor techs available.
Shifts are scheduled 4-6 weeks in advance.
Travelers are required to work every other weekend and participate in the holiday rotation schedule.
Scrub color for nurses is royal blue.
Travelers can expect 1-2 shifts of orientation with a preceptor.
This role primarily involves providing care in a telemetry setting with the potential for varied patient assignments.
