Registered Nurse (RN) - MS/Tele Float

Job Summary

This position is for a Registered Nurse specializing in Medical-Surgical and Telemetry Float. The RN will provide care to patients in an Emergency Department Holding Unit, where patients are waiting for inpatient beds. Responsibilities include caring for patients with various medical and surgical adult diagnoses, with potential for PCU-level patient management.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide care for medical/surgical adult patients and PCU-level patients.
• Administer telemetry monitoring and manage dysrhythmias.
• Perform colostomy care, feeding tube management, and renal failure treatments.
• Administer blood products and manage peripheral lines.
• Perform phlebotomy and PICC line management.
• Facilitate the use of Rapid Response Teams as necessary.
• Utilize standard equipment, cardiac monitors, and IV pumps.
• Float to various departments including MedSurg and ED as required.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience required.
• Traveler experience is required.
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications are mandatory.
• Preferred certifications include NIHSS, IV insulin protocols, and knowledge of pre/post hemodialysis management.

Skills Required

• Strong skills in managing various telemetry duties and medication management.
• Ability to interpret and manage dysrhythmias effectively.
• Experience with high flow nasal cannula (HFNC), CPAP/BiPAP, and non-invasive airway management.
• Capability in performing wound care and management, including the use of wound vacs.

Work Environment

• Target patient-to-nurse ratios: 1:6 for MS/Tele and 1:4 for PCU.
• Scheduled shifts are night shifts, with a commitment of 36 to 48 hours per week.
• Every other weekend availability is required.
• Contract staff may need to participate in a Storm or Hurricane Team during catastrophic events.

Unit Overview

The ED Holding Unit provides inpatient care to patients awaiting transfer to hospital settings, emphasizing high-acuity patient management.

Additional Notes

All candidates must pass EKG testing prior to starting in this specialty. The unit experiences high turnover, and all candidates will be interviewed for suitability.
