Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Med Surg/Tele Duration: 11 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12.5 hours (6:45 pm to 7:15 am) Experience: Minimum of two years in Med Surg/Tele nursing License: Licensed RN able to practice in the state Certifications: - Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - NIH Stroke Scale - Basic Life Support (BLS) Must-Have: - Patient care - Nursing process - Assessment - Planning - Intervention Description: The Registered Nurse performs under the direct supervision of the Patient Care Coordinator. The nurse is delegated an assignment by the Patient Care Coordinator to achieve quality patient care. The Registered Nurse implements the nursing process in an organized and systematic manner. This includes assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation in collaboration with the Patient Care Coordinator, physicians, and ancillary staff. Documentation in the patient care record is essential, as is direct observation by the Nurse Manager and patient evaluations of care. The Registered Nurse is responsible to the Patient Care Coordinator for patient care. Ultimately, the nurse is accountable to the Nurse Manager. Other duties may be assigned by the Patient Care Coordinator and/or Patient Care Manager. The nurse must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served. This includes assessing and intervening appropriately when a patient's condition worsens and requires immediate attention. The nurse should demonstrate knowledge of growth and development principles. An ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the information is necessary to identify each patient's requirements. The nurse should also provide the care needed relative to age-specific needs. The Registered Nurse must be able to perform all technical skills required for the patient population. This includes administering medications, starting intravenous access, maintaining intravenous lines, and Foley catheters. Venipuncture, administration of blood products, restraint application and monitoring, sterile dressing, and performing complex and routine treatments as ordered by a physician are also required. Demonstrating technical aptitude for troubleshooting equipment is necessary. This includes but is not limited to traction, wound vacuum systems, sequential compression devices, telemetry monitoring devices, blood glucose monitoring devices, and specialty beds. The nurse must demonstrate the ability to safely position and assist patients using various devices. These devices may include abduction pillows, splints, slings, braces, neck collars, walkers, and immobilizers. The Registered Nurse must provide thorough, concise, and timely documentation, bedside shift reports, and verbal communication. Communicating pertinent patient information to all healthcare team members is essential. The nurse is responsible for maintaining clinical skills, staying current in skills, ongoing competencies, equipment, and certifications in the specific nursing area. Embracing and practicing a caring philosophy in all interactions with patients, visitors, coworkers, and others is expected. The nurse implements a comprehensive plan of care to provide individualized care. Prompt intervention when clinical changes occur and prevention of complications in patients in need of cardiac monitoring and medical-surgical care is necessary. Communication with others in an appropriate and timely manner is a must. Adherence to and promotion of established values such as customer service, safety, and compliance standards is important. The nurse should demonstrate the ability to promote a culture of caring through compassionate care, teamwork, and courtesy in all interactions. Demonstrating financial responsibility by using supplies efficiently, ensuring timely patient discharges, and minimizing incremental overtime is required.
