Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical / Telemetry (Cardiac Renal Unit)

Schedule / Job Type

Contract (13 Weeks) | Full-Time | Onsite | Night Shift (12-Hour Nights, 6:30 PM – 7:00 AM) | 36 Guaranteed Hours per Week | Three weekends per six-week schedule; every other holiday required

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct nursing care to patients on a 34-bed cardiac renal medical surgical/telemetry unit with patient populations including post-cardiac procedure (heart cath, ablation, pacemaker), A-fib RVR, ESRD, CHF, sepsis, tracheostomies, nephrostomy tubes, CBI, renal biopsy, and behavioral health/detox patients
  • Perform telemetry monitoring and 12-lead EKG interpretation; travelers will be required to pass telemetry competency testing
  • Manage cardiac and other drip medications (Cardizem, Amiodarone, Heparin, Lasix, Protonix, etc.) and recover heart cath patients using femoral and TR band techniques
  • Perform PIV insertion and manage chest tubes, indwelling drains, central line care, and CBI; apply CIWA/detox protocols as needed
  • Float within skillset to a sister campus location (approximately 8 miles) with 2-hour notice; mid-shift float within the same campus is also possible
  • May be required to precept students and new hires in this teaching facility environment
Required Qualifications
  • Current, active RN Compact License (required at time of submittal)
  • AHA BLS certification (required)
  • AHA ACLS certification (required)
  • NIHSS certification (required)
  • Minimum of two years of strong cardiac/telemetry nursing experience
  • At least one prior travel nursing assignment and Trauma Level II experience
Preferred Experience / Skills
  • Recent hands-on experience with EPIC electronic health records (a checkoff class will be required upon start)
  • Demonstrated proficiency in strong assessment and critical thinking skills within a high-acuity cardiac/telemetry environment
  • Experience with behavioral health and detox patient populations, including CIWA protocol management
