Job Title: RN II-ICU-CVICU Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Intensive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours; rotating shifts (no blocked schedules) Experience: Six months previous critical care experience preferred License: Current RN license in state of practice required Certifications: - Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required - Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required - Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) required within 1 year of hire or transfer into the department Must-Have: Completion of a Critical Care Nursing course required Description: The position is responsible for the planning, coordination, and provision of nursing care in a critical care setting. The RN supervises and delegates care responsibilities to ancillary personnel within their scope of practice. Critical care nursing knowledge and skills are essential for patients with systemic failure requiring ventilation, neuro/trauma, respiratory failure, and hemodynamic monitoring. The RN provides appropriate nursing interventions in stable and emergent patient situations. Competency in routine nursing skills is required, including medication administration and intravenous therapy. The position requires safe use and maintenance of medical equipment in the critical care setting. The RN accurately interprets ECG rhythms and manages care during life-threatening emergencies. Knowledge of lead functions and application is required, with the ability to make recommendations for optimal monitoring based on patient presentation. The RN demonstrates knowledge and skill regarding the care and management of patients requiring specialized monitoring, including ICP and ventriculostomy. Proficiency in assessing and intervening with neurological symptom changes is essential. The role includes caring for patients requiring Pulmonary Artery Monitoring Catheters and Arterial Pressure Monitoring Catheters. The RN must demonstrate the ability to care for patients requiring mechanical ventilation and other ventilatory support devices. Understanding the principles of multisystem alterations and their impact on physiological functions is important. The RN initiates a multidisciplinary, goal-oriented care plan for each patient in collaboration with health care team members. Education of patients and their families regarding care is a key component. Teaching methods should be age-appropriate and aligned with the patient’s condition and learning readiness. Timely documentation of all nursing care provided, including evaluations of patient responses, is required. The RN consistently performs necessary safety and quality control checks within the unit. Other job-related duties may be assigned as necessary.
