Acute Med/Surg Registered Nurse - Part Time (2x12s) Shift Details
Part Time - 2x12-hour shifts per week
Day/night variable shift (scheduled as needed)
Rotational Days, Evenings, Nights, Weekends, and Holidays
Every other weekend (EOW) required
Holiday coverage required
All contracts must end in February/March

Required Experience
Minimum one (1) year of experience as a Registered Nurse in a Med/Surg environment
Position Overview
The Registered Nurse applies knowledge of nursing theory, technical, and communication skills in delivering high quality, compassionate care to patients and families
Assesses patient needs, develops a plan of care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, provides direct care, evaluates patient progress, and coordinates care delivery throughout the patient's episode
Develops specialized skill in the area of cardiac care, including telemetry monitoring
Accountable for patient and family education to assist in understanding self-care beyond hospitalization, including lifestyle changes to support health and healing
Promotes comfort and provides emotional support in a healing environment
Nursing Knowledge & Care Delivery
Assesses patient and family needs through active listening, social perceptiveness, and analyzing data obtained through direct observation, technology, or health team communication
Creates a developmentally and age-appropriate, culturally relevant, individualized plan of care to address the nature and scope of identified health problems
In collaboration with the patient, family, physician, and health care team members, sets goals and monitors patient progress
Adjusts the plan of care based on patient response or change in condition and reprioritization of needs
Promotes, advocates for, and protects the health, safety, and rights of the patient
Systematically evaluates quality and effectiveness of nursing practice
Uses results of Quality Improvement activities to initiate changes in individual nursing practice and to influence care delivery
Engages in self-evaluation of practice, identifying strengths and areas in which professional development would be beneficial
Takes accountability to increase knowledge and enhance skill
Uses logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems
Demonstrates skill in application of nursing interventions, including medication administration
Patient & Family Education
Motivates the patient and family by teaching them what is needed to continue care and healing at home
Assesses patient and family learning styles and structures sessions to maximize understanding
Seeks teachable moments during the care delivery process to emphasize pertinent information
Asks questions to evaluate retention of key points in the self-care process
Provides tools and information to assist the patient and family after discharge
Documents the education provided and the patient and family response to the education
Teamwork & Safety
Encourages and builds mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members to promote the best possible patient outcomes
Teaches others as appropriate and delegates tasks and interventions consistent with the individual's education, training, and scope of practice
Complies with infection prevention strategies and maintains competencies required to care for the specific population in the area assigned
