Must-Have:
Able to perform basic patient assessments.
General care and maintenance of wounds, tracheostomy, ostomy, drains, chest tubes, strokes, and seizures.
Ability to manage patients requiring dialysis or PCA pumps.
Familiarity with Heparin drip.
Experience with post-operative procedures including amputations, ostomy, drains, chest tubes, oral surgeries, and wound vacs.
Description:
This is a medical-surgical nursing position on a unit that accommodates up to 36 beds.
The patient-to-nurse ratio will generally be 1:4 to 1:5.
The unit is staffed with a secretary every day and utilizes PRN techs as needed.
Equipment on the unit includes PD cyclers, Welch Allyn VS carts, Hoyer lifts, Broda chairs, and Alaris IV pumps.
Documentation is completed using a specific electronic system.
Nursing staff are expected to work four weekend shifts within a four-week block.
Floating to other units may occur based on staffing needs.
Nurses are required to conduct bedside shift reports and safety checks every one to two hours with a focus on communication and responsiveness.
Candidates will be expected to perform tasks in line with unit guidelines, including infection prevention measures and fall prevention protocols.
Teamwork is highly valued in this unit, and new staff will benefit from supportive leadership as they integrate into the team.
All nursing candidates will be treated as core staff and held to high standards and accountability for their performance.
