Job Title: RN II-MED-SURG Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Medical-Surgical Duration: 8 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: One year in medical-surgical experience required License: Current RN license in state of practice required Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required Must-Have: Current Epic experience required Description: Responsible for the planning, coordination, and provision of nursing care to patients on the medical-surgical unit. This position addresses age-related physiological, emotional, and cognitive needs of patients. Includes care planning, vital signs, medication dosages, physiological changes, and psychosocial needs. Supervises and delegates care responsibilities to ancillary personnel within their scope of practice. Provides appropriate nursing interventions in stable and emergent patient situations. Competent in all routine nursing skills including medication administration and intravenous therapy. Responsible for the care and maintenance of indwelling catheters and drains. Ensures safe use of medical equipment routinely used in the medical-surgical setting. Initiates a multidisciplinary, goal-oriented care plan for each patient. Collaborates with members of the healthcare team and provides care based on that plan. Competent in epidural management, care of acute post-operative wounds, and sterile technique. Educates patients and/or their families regarding care. Uses teaching methods appropriate to the age, condition, culture, and assessed learning readiness of the patient. Delegates patient care tasks to ancillary personnel based on individual competency. Evaluates the effectiveness of care provided. Completes legible, accurate, and timely documentation of all nursing care provided. Actively participates in the orientation and training of new employees and ancillary staff. Identifies and communicates opportunities to improve care and unit operation. Open to change and reaching new goals for the unit. Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Commitment to the safety and well-being of associates and patients. Required vaccinations are a condition of employment and must be maintained.
