Job Title: Registered Nurse - Med Surg Profession: RN Specialty: Med Surg Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Active RN License Certifications: BLS required, ACLS optional Must-Have: 1 year of Med/Surg experience Ability to learn quickly Description: This position is for a Registered Nurse in a medical-surgical unit. The unit has 54 beds with a focus on orthopedic and spine patients. Patient ratios are typically 1:5-6 for RNs and 1:12-15 for patient care technicians. There are dedicated RN/LPN teams with support staff as needed. The unit is equipped with Alaris pumps, telemetry, specialty beds, and other medical equipment. The documentation system used is Meditech. Staffing includes unit secretaries during the week and availability of techs and externs. There is a floating policy that allows for discretion within the unit. The patient population includes medical-surgical, orthopedic, spine, trauma, and psych medical hold patients. Advanced skills required include thorough assessment, prioritization, critical thinking, and time management. General medical/surgical procedures performed on the unit include post-catheterizations, laparoscopic appendectomies, and thoracentesis.
