Provide leadership by working cooperatively with ancillary nursing and other patient team personnel. Maintain standards for professional nursing practice in the clinical setting. Develop systems to provide care to a diverse patient population including infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. Participate and implement age-specific care and interactions. Attend departmental orientation and annual in-service education for age-specific training. Collaborate with the healthcare team in the assessment of the patient and family. Perform head-to-toe assessments on all patients and reassess as per policy. Adequately assess and reassess pain and utilize appropriate pain management techniques. Interpret data regarding the patient's status to identify each patient's age-specific needs. Collaborate with the healthcare team to develop a plan of care that meets physiological, spiritual, emotional, mental, social, and developmental needs. Treat patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identify and address psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs of patients and their families. Act appropriately to address additional resource requests or issue resolution. Formulate a teaching plan based on identified learning needs and evaluate the effectiveness of learning. Include the family in teaching, as appropriate. Interact professionally with patients and families and involve them in the formation of the plan of care. Consult with other departments to provide an interdisciplinary approach to the patient’s needs. Coordinate and supervise patient care as necessary. Demonstrate knowledge of growth and development principles over the lifespan. Perform patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care. Optimize patient safety and reduce the likelihood of medical/healthcare errors. Demonstrate flexibility, organizational skills, and the ability to function under stress. Assist physicians with procedures and perform services requiring technical and manual skills. Administer medications accurately and safely following established protocols. Evaluate patient/family responses to interventions and revise the plan of care as indicated. Educate patients and families regarding pain management. Communicate effectively, accurately, and professionally with patients, families, and all members of the healthcare team. Document to current standards and policies. Communicate with healthcare team members regarding in-hospital and post-discharge needs. Utilize available technology to enhance communication and patient safety. Participate in the education and development of staff and students. Facilitate the orientation of new employees. Comply with organizational and departmental policies and procedures. Maintain patient confidentiality at all times. Use computerized punch time systems correctly and complete work within the designated time. Fulfill annual educational requirements and monthly in-service attendance. Adhere to the dress code and wear identification while on duty. Attend at least 75% of staff meetings annually and read all monthly staff meeting minutes. Actively participate in performance improvement initiatives. Comply with all regulatory agencies and applicable standards. Exposure to diseases, foul odors, hazardous chemicals, and sharp objects is required. Physical requirements include sufficient dexterity to perform necessary procedures. Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of patients and equipment is required. Stand, walk, reach, or stoop for more than 75% of the working day. Must possess a sense of touch for various assessments. Hearing ability is necessary for patient communication and monitoring. Vision abilities must be sufficient to assess patient conditions and perform related procedures. Mathematical skills are required for recording patient information. Memory skills are necessary for remembering patient care activities. Reading skills are necessary to comprehend all materials regarding patient care. Writing skills must be clear and accurate for effective communication. Reasoning skills are essential for assimilating complex data concerning patient diagnoses and unit procedures.
