Job Title: Med/Surg Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Medical-Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Current RN license Certifications: Must have ACLS, BLS, & PALS certifications Must-Have: Must have RN license Must include required certifications with submission Description: Med/Surg Nurses provide direct and individualized nursing care to patients based on the application of scientific nursing principles. Responsibilities include consulting and coordinating with health care team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans. Prepare and administer medications (orally, subcutaneously, through an IV) and record prescribed medications. Report adverse reactions to medications or treatments according to policies regarding medication administration by licensed registered nurses. Educate patients about surgical procedures. Record patients' medical information and vital signs. Monitor and adjust specialized equipment used on patients, and interpret and record electronic displays. Initiate corrective action whenever the patient displays adverse symptoms. Provide bedside care for various medical patients, including pre- and post-surgery patients. Initiate patient education plans as prescribed. Teach patients and caregivers how to manage their illness or injury, including post-treatment home care needs. Change dressings, insert catheters, and start IVs. Prepare equipment and assist the physician during patient examinations and treatment. Respond to life-saving situations based on nursing standards and protocol. Participate in discharge planning. Utilize time management skills. Record all care information concisely, accurately, and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format and on the appropriate forms. Perform other position-related duties as assigned, depending on the assignment setting.
