Job Summary

This is a 13-week travel assignment for a Registered Nurse on the 3B/3C Stroke Telemetry Unit in Elmira, New York. This 34-bed unit operates as a high-acuity, fast-paced medical-surgical environment, specializing in the comprehensive care of acute stroke and complex telemetry patients.

The unit is committed to delivering evidence-based, protocol-driven care, with a strong emphasis on patient safety, rapid intervention, and seamless interdisciplinary collaboration. Nurses on this unit are integral to managing a diverse patient population requiring specialized neurological and cardiac monitoring.

The role involves managing admissions, discharges, and patient flow in a high-turnover setting, requiring excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize care effectively within both primary and team nursing models.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform and document frequent neurological assessments, including the NIH Stroke Scale.
  • Monitor, interpret, and respond to changes in telemetry rhythms in real time.
  • Ensure strict compliance with stroke core measures, including dysphagia screening, patient education, and individualized care plan development.
  • Administer medications safely and accurately, adhering to Bar Code Medication Administration (BCMA) standards.
  • Coordinate comprehensive patient care with an interdisciplinary team, including providers, therapy services, and case management.
  • Manage patient admissions, discharges, and overall patient flow efficiently within a high-turnover environment.
  • Implement and maintain rigorous patient safety protocols, with a continuous focus on falls prevention and skin integrity.
Required Qualifications
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of New York.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Current NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
  • Demonstrated ability to accurately read and interpret basic cardiac rhythm strips.
