Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical
Job Summary
Pagosa Springs Medical Center in Pagosa Springs, Colorado, is seeking an experienced and dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) to join their Medical-Surgical unit. This role focuses on providing comprehensive observation and inpatient care to a diverse adult patient population.
The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing and prioritizing patient needs, administering nursing care and procedures, monitoring and reassessing patient conditions, and meticulously documenting all findings. This position emphasizes patient and family education, collaborative teamwork with providers, and supporting continuity of care to optimize patient outcomes and prevent readmissions.
Key Responsibilities
Provide direct patient care within the RN scope of practice, adhering to physician/provider orders and established protocols.
Perform comprehensive patient assessments, develop individualized care plans, implement nursing interventions, and evaluate the effectiveness of care provided.
Monitor patients for changes in condition, promptly reporting abnormal findings to the appropriate healthcare provider.
Accurately and timely administer medications, IV therapy, oxygen therapy, and blood products.
Operate infusion pumps and ensure accurate documentation in the electronic health record (EHR).
Complete all required documentation in Cerner, utilizing Care Compass to organize and record assessments, tasks, procedures, and patient education.
Deliver age-specific nursing care, including ongoing assessment and reassessment of patient condition.
Demonstrate proficiency in cardiac monitoring and rhythm interpretation, taking appropriate action as needed.
Educate patients and families on disease processes, treatment plans, medications, pain management, wound care, discharge planning, and follow-up care.
Facilitate smooth patient transfers of care using the SBAR (Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation) communication format.
Adhere strictly to infection prevention practices, universal precautions, and National Patient Safety Goals.
Maintain patient confidentiality and uphold patient rights, dignity, and privacy.
Collaborate effectively with providers, nursing staff, and other departments to ensure interdisciplinary patient care.
Serve as a mentor to less experienced nursing staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development.
Required Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited Registered Nurse (RN) program.
Minimum of 5 years of recent experience in Medical-Surgical or Emergency Room settings.
Previous travel nursing experience.
Proficiency with Cerner Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.

Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification from the AHA, or completion within 3 months of hire.
