Travel Nurse RN - Medical-Surgical - $2,164 per week in Oakland, MD

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Med Surg (Medical Surgical) Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours, weekends as scheduled Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, NIHSS required for all RNs and LPNs; ACLS and PALS recommended but not required Must-Have: Strong Med Surg background due to a variety of patients Description: Unit has 32 beds, currently operating with 20 due to staffing. Nurse-patient ratios are no more than 5 to 1. The unit accommodates both RNs and LPNs. Common diagnoses include chronic pain, congestive heart failure, pneumonia, abdominal pain, pancreatitis, orthopedic issues, detox, and post-operative surgery patients. Pediatric patients are also included, except for laboring mothers and those requiring titrated cardiac drips or insulin drips. Respiratory therapy equipment available includes CPAP and BiPAP; respiratory therapists assist and manage throughout shifts. Nurses are not required to titrate drips. ICU monitors are used, and telemetry staff is responsible for reading strips. There is no charge nurse; a house supervisor makes assignments for nurses and aides. Nurse aids are present on the unit, with a ratio of 3 per shift. Shifts are 12 hours, running from 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM, with flexibility for extra shifts as available. Weekend shifts are required every other weekend, with holiday duty rotating among regular staff. Floating to assist other units may occur as needed. Scrubs can be of any color, excluding camo or orange. Unit-specific orientation includes a review with management and training setup by the education department. Training lasts 3-5 days on the unit. Charting is conducted using the Epic system. No BSN is required. This position does not require on-call or standby duties.
